The Paradigm shift in the Indian Education System
The Year. 2020 has turned out to be a year of change and revolutionization in education, digitization, politics, economics, etc. The present pandemic has added to the whirlpool and has been a tough year for the population.
What the Education Sector Witnessed? The education sector witnessed a significant shift from Classroom teaching to Virtual teaching, and it has not been without obstacles. The students and teachers were made to re-learn and re-adjust with the new norm. The progression of online learning has altered the mindset of students and teachers alike. NEP has also been introduced into the schooling system.
What did the NEP (New Education Policy) bring? India’s New Education Policy, which was approved back in July 2020, will align the education system to the needs of the new generation, keeping India’s values instilled. NEP will focus more on universalising access from the beginning of childhood towards higher education for all children, with efforts in assisting socio-economically disabled groups. The new curriculum will include play and activity-based pedagogy.
Various provisions are offered for multiple exits and entry options in higher education to allow the students flexibility in selecting their courses and honing their skills. They will be allowed to choose the combination of their desired subjects based on their strengths. To be able to choose the right path on their own, vocational education will be integrated into the curriculum from grade 6 onwards, where students will be exposed to various career paths.
With the goal of offering a flexible and integrated approach of education to all students, NEP will help in enabling the true potential and newly acquired skills. The 21st century needs a much more innovative and high-quality education, which can provide a skilled workforce that is in high demand. Various companies are looking for manpower with multi-disciplinary abilities as well.
Digitalization. With many years of associating the Internet as a distraction and as something that can negatively impact our lives, the Internet has truly transformed into something that the world cannot work with. Digitization has evolved as a global internet traffic surged. The potential that digitization brings will contribute significantly to the world’s health, education, society, and biodiversity sectors. It is empowering people to work in innovative ways as well as upskilling themselves.
Remote learning. Online learning has increased customized learning experiences, fitting into the schedule of young working adults who wish to study more. Digitization also made information and knowledge more accessible to anyone in different parts of the world. The education sector needs to evolve day by day, and technology can help improve it. New learning methods and technologies captivate the students, facilitating cooperation in classrooms with teachers.
Digital learning, which schools and colleges have been implemented in lieu of the global pandemic, has improved the delivery of educational curricula. Through the various online tutorials and valuable information found on online sites, students can receive the opportunities to develop and upskill their knowledge set. Digitization offers excellent prospects in the modernisation of the education system, taking it to a higher level.
