IBPS PO 2021: What and How to Prepare?

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) of Probationary Officers (PO) examination takes place yearly as a Common Written Examination (CWE). Started in 2011, this year will be the 11th edition of the test. Candidates aiming for the post of PO in public sector banks in India should attempt the IBSP PO examination. Along with PO, Management Trainees are also recruited.

Public Sector Banks, SBI, NABARD, RBI, LIC, SIDBI, and other banks are offered services from IBPS. There are, at present, 3000+ posts open for PO in the public sector banks. For allotment to these posts, candidates must clear all 3 phases of examination: Prelims, Mains, and Interview Process. The final selection of the candidates will be based on the Mains and interview scores.

The examination is held in several locations across India and conducted online. The Prelims is scheduled for 9th, 10th, 16th, and 17th October 2021. The Main examination will be conducted on 27th November 2021 (tentative date).

Important Dates. The Notification for IBPS PO will be released in August 2021.

The online registration process will commence in August 2021.

IBPS PO Prelims will take place on the 9th, 10th, 16th, and 17th of October 2021.

After the Preliminary Result is released in November 2021, the mains admit card will be released in the same month.

Mains Exam will be conducted on 27th November 2021. The results will be announced in December 2021.

The shortlisted candidates’ interview process will be conducted in January 2022. Allotment to banks will occur from 1st April 2022, where the results will be released on the official website.

The banks hold the responsibility to contact the qualified candidates about the joining dates and processes.

Eligibility. Candidates must have a graduation degree from a recognised university.

They must know the working of computer systems.

They must be proficient in the state or UT language, both written and verbal.

They must be more than 20 years of age and less than 30 years.

Exam Pattern. The time duration for the Preliminary examination is 1 hour, where each section must be attempted in 20 minutes. The paper has three sections for a total mark of 100. There are 100 questions, divided into:

1. English – 30 Marks

2. Numerical Ability – 35 Marks

3. Reasoning Ability – 35 Marks

To get shortlisted for Mains, candidates must secure more than the cut-off and qualify in each section.

The Mains have a total of 5 sections for a total mark of 225. The time duration is 3 hours 30 minutes divided into:

1. Reasoning and Computer Aptitude – 60 minutes to complete 45 Questions (60 Marks)

2. English Language – 40 minutes to complete 35 questions (40 Marks)

3. Data Analysis and Interpretation – 45 minutes to complete 35 questions (60 Marks)

4. General Economy and Banking Awareness – 35 minutes to complete 40 questions (40 Marks)

5. English Language (Descriptive) – 30 minutes to complete 2 questions (25 Marks)

After qualifying the Mains, the candidates must be present for the interview, which carries 100 marks. The discussion generally takes around 15 to 20 minutes.

Each wrong answer in Preliminary and Mains will lead to a deduction of 0.25 marks.

Preparation Tips.

ü Go through the latest exam pattern and syllabus.

ü Collect relevant study materials and books.

ü Practice previous years’ question papers.

ü Practice and revise all the topics and questions. Expect unexpected patterns and questions.

ü There are several study notes, quizzes, and lectures online for candidates to prepare from.

ü Maintain balanced diet and proper amount of sleep.
